The story is about Flute the dog and his adventures to rescue his master Woody the Kings Toymaker who has been imprisoned by the Wicked Baron Von Blitzen. The Baron came to power after the mysterious disappearance of the king.

Time is against Flute for if he cannot rescue Woody in 24 hours the Baron is going to marry the king’s daughter; princess Vashmi, and proclaim him self-king. If that happens then the whole land will be plunged into misery because the Baron is only at his happiest when everyone around him is miserable. Anyone caught smiling smirking or giggling is immediately arrested. The Baron especially hates children.

When the Baron finds out about Woody’s attempt to overthrow him Woody is arrested by the Baron. Flute and Gladys the Housekeeper escapes by jumping down the Village wishing well, but the Baron cuts the rope leaving them both stranded but being a wishing well it has magical powers which Flute and Gladys are pleased to make use of. But things are not as straightforward as they thought and they are met by other more nasty magic powers. Hiding in the underground passages.
